It is easy to fantasies about getting away, moving off to a wonderful warm new place, and starting your dream new life in Australia. But how easy is it to make that dream a reality? A lot of people all over the world would love the chance to migrate to Australia, be it for career reasons, family, or just for a fresh start somewhere amazing, but it can be difficult to know where to begin and what you need to do to make it actually happen. Here we will look at some of the key requirements for getting a visa, some of the difficulties you might face, and some ways to overcome them as well to help you start planning your big move today.

Is it difficult to migrate to Australia?

One of the key worries for people planning on migrating is how difficult it is, and if it is even possible for them. The truth is that it isn’t really easy to pack up and change country, and Australia does have a lot of rules and regulations that you have to understand and fit in with in order to go. That being said, there are several different visas available and paths to naturalisation for people in a variety of circumstances, ages, and occupations so it should be possible to find the right one for you.

If you are over a certain age, not in the correct skilled employment favored by Australia, or planning on studying with the financial means then it can be trickier to enter the country, but there are still ways to do it including marriage and certain investments so do your research, have a look around and see which is the right route for you.

What is the easiest way to migrate to Australia?

As stated there are many ways to migrate with several types of visas and the ability to become a citizen over time and meet certain criteria. Which is the easiest is tough to say as they depend very much on the individual’s age, employment, and so on to determine which visa they would be applying for before knowing how easy it would be to achieve. That being said, there are up to 200,000 people migrating to Australia each year for different reasons and on various visas, but the most common is the skilled worker visa or GSM (General Skilled Migration) which brings in lots of employees in key occupations. Here are a few of the key visa types:

  • The Skilled Migrant Visa – brought in to cover gaps in the Australian workforce in certain industries, as stated this is a popular and common way for people to gain entry to the country either temporarily or permanently. A temporary visa can become more long-term after your arrival if you choose to take the next steps. You have to hit the right number of points in the system to pass muster and they take into account things like age, qualifications, and even your spouse to get there.
  • Family Visas – as the name suggests and the easiest way if you have a spouse or family member who is already an Australian citizen, a family visa can allow entry for husbands, wives, children, and so on within certain categories and limitations, of course.
  • Student Visas – Australia welcomes those wishing to study or train in a profession, though again with rules and boxes to tick. This can be an easy way to enter the country if you are the right age and have the financial means to support yourself, but can also be difficult if this is not the case so it does depend on your personal circumstances.
  • Naturalisation – the target of anyone who wishes to stay and live in Australia for the long haul, this is not the easiest of processes but it can be done usually after a certain amount of time on a visa or meeting many of the other requirements like not being absent for too long from the country, being of good character (we’re sure you are) and being proficient in English.

With so many options, requirements and steps to take it can be a little confusing and tough to know how to get started, so one of the easiest ways to begin your journey can be to consult with an Australian migration agency and get some good advice. None of these steps are truly easy to start with, but if you find the right route for you and make sure you know what you are doing they can be simple in the end and well worth the trouble.

What are the requirements to migrate to Australia?

The requirements to migrate to Australia do vary depending on the visa you want, and your own circumstances, and can of course change over time, so it is important to stay up to date and keep checking on the most recent information. That being said, there are a few standard or common requirements that should or must be reached to enter.

  • Age – While there are ways to migrate at any age, it is much harder and there are fewer options once you are 45. After that, you cannot enter with a skilled worker visa and usually only with an investment or marriage, neither of which are for everyone. If you are nearing the mark and still haven’t taken the plunge, do it now!
  • Length of stay – This not only refers to how long you wish to stay in Australia overall but also how often and how long you visit places outside of the country. To become a citizen you cannot have spent more than 1 year out of 4 out of the country, and 90 days in the year prior to your application.
  • Ability to support yourself – whether with a new job lined up, an invitation to come and find one, or the money to support yourself through study and whatever else you are planning to do you need to show that you can support yourself in this new stage of your life.

There are many other requirements or steps to take depending on how you plan to migrate, so again make sure to ask a qualified migration agency, do your research and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
